Mediahuis opts for sustainable mobility
Mediahuis is committed to sustainability to help reduce its CO2 emissions by 2030. And that includes alternative mobility. In 2019, Mediahuis introduced Olympus Mobility. Sandra Eemans, Fleet & Mobility Officer at Mediahuis Belgium: “Olympus Mobility takes us one step closer to a green world.”
Since Mediahuis was founded in 2014 as a joint venture between Corelio and Concerta, the group has continued to build a portfolio of no fewer than 30 international media brands in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland and, more recently, Germany. As a member of the Belgian Alliance for Climate Action, an organisation of Belgian businesses that prioritises climate objectives, they are actively working towards a more environmentally friendly world and are committed to setting Science Based Targets.
In 2019, Mediahuis took a close look at the sustainability of its mobility policy. This step was prompted by closure of the offices in Groot-Bijgaarden, and a move to the head office in Antwerp and new offices in the Brussels city centre. This change was also a major adjustment for the employees, especially in terms of accessibility and mobility. Mobility Officer Sandra Eemans: “We wanted to make our journeys more sustainable, but also support our employees. Olympus Mobility provided an answer.”
A growing range
Sandra continued: “We first conducted a survey to get a good idea of the mobility needs of our employees. It was important for us to involve them in the process of making our mobility more sustainable. We got into contact with Olympus Mobility through KBC Autolease and mobility consultant Traject. Their attractive offer matched our needs, and the overall positive feedback swayed the decision. The range also continues to grow, so there is plenty of choice for everyone. The move to the Olympus platform continues to be a success.”
More control over mobility
“Employees now have more control over their own mobility. They increasingly determine on their own how they will use their mobility budget. Some opt for a car with a lower total cost of ownership and decide to use the remaining amount for alternative mobility through the Olympus app. In doing so, they do not have to sacrifice the comfort of their car and they can bridge the last mile with public transport. As many as 90% of our employees at our Brussels location have opted for an alternative solution. Some people are even switching completely to sustainable mobility.”
Saving time and ease of use
“Our cooperation with Olympus Mobility is based on a relationship of trust. If you have questions about the mobility budget, you always find appropriate support. This guidance is certainly appreciated, but the main added value lies in the significant savings in administrative costs. One user-friendly management portal that you can use to do everything. The option of entering manual items is another bonus, and everything is done smoothly. The Olympus app is also popular with employees. The simplicity of the app is very appealing. In a survey, we found that 90% of our employees consider the app user-friendly.”
